Privacy policy

Last updated September 10, 2026

AffectedNow (affectednow.com) is a reference site for U.S. product recalls, service outages and consumer alerts. This policy explains what data we collect when you visit, why, and the choices you have. We keep it short on purpose; if anything is unclear, contact us.

What we collect

Server logs. Like most websites, our hosting provider records standard request data (IP address, browser type, pages requested, timestamps) to keep the site running and to detect abuse. These logs are retained for a limited period and are not used to identify individuals.

Analytics. We use Google Analytics to understand which pages are read and how the site performs. Google Analytics sets cookies and collects usage data in aggregate. IP anonymization is enabled. You can opt out with the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.

Nothing you type. We do not require accounts, and the site has no forms that collect personal information other than the contact page, which sends your message to us by email and stores nothing else.

Advertising and cookies

We may display advertising served by Google AdSense and other third-party vendors to support the cost of running the site.

Ads are never placed where they could be mistaken for recall guidance, lot numbers, official notices or the "what to do" steps on a page.

Visitors in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland

If you visit from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, you will be shown a consent message before any personalized advertising or non-essential cookies are used. You can change your choice at any time from the link in the footer that appears once ads are enabled. Where consent is not given, only non-personalized ads (which do not use cookies for personalization) may be shown.

Cookies we set ourselves

We set a small number of first-party cookies for site function only, for example to keep the layout consistent between page loads. These contain no personal information.

Children

This site is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct or delete personal data we hold about you, or to object to certain processing. Because we collect almost no personal data directly, most requests can be satisfied by clearing your browser cookies and using the opt-out links above. For anything else, contact us and we will respond within 30 days.

Changes

We will update this page when our practices change and note the date at the top. Material changes (for example, enabling a new category of data collection) will also be mentioned on the corrections and updates page.
